The mission of Shane’s Inspiration is to create Universally Accessible Playgrounds where children with disabilities can play side-by-side with their peers, creating a world where compassion and acceptance can flourish. We also offer education, transportation, and community outreach programs that work toward the common goal of dissolving the barriers of bias and fostering friendships among children of all abilities.

In April 1998, Catherine Curry-Williams and Scott Williams founded Share’s Inspiration in memory of their son, Shane Alexander, who died two weeks after his birth from a rare, spinal disorder. Had Shane lived, he would have spent his life in a wheelchair and would have never known the simple joy of playing in a park with his friends. This realization inspired Catherine, Scott, and their friend Tiffany Harris to permanently change L.A.’s landscape by building the first truly accessible playground on the West Coast and the largest in the nation – “Shane’s Inspiration” in Griffith park, which opened in September of 2000.

Shane’s Inspiration’s work is firmly rooted in the belief that playing in a playground is the birthright of every child. This inspires us to help communities design and develop these magical and beneficial play environments throughout California and beyond. Our goal is to enhance a child’s emotional, physical, and social development by creating physically challenging and sensory-rich equipment that is also independently playable. Our vision is to increase awareness and understanding by helping to integrate children with disabilities into their communities, schools, and neighborhoods.

Today, because of your support, we are 30+ playgrounds strong and offer comprehensive programs that educate and transport 2,500 children and their families each year.
